The Ultimate Wedding Day Tips for Couples in Buffalo, NY

After months (or years!) of planning, your wedding day is finally here. While it's one of the most joyful days of your life, it can also bring nerves, unexpected hiccups, and tight timelines. To help you make the most of your special day, whether you're planning a grand celebration or an intimate affair, here's your guide to having the best wedding day possible in Buffalo.

 1. Start the Day with Intention

Your mindset sets the tone for the entire day. Begin with a moment of calm—whether it’s saying a prayer, or simply taking a deep breath and visualizing the day. Even 5 quiet minutes can help ground you before the excitement begins.  Make sure you’ve built some time into your morning to ground yourself and take in the splendor of this momentous day.

 2. Plan for the Any Type of Weather (Yes, even in July!)

Buffalo weather is unpredictable year-round. A July wedding might bring sunshine or a surprise thunderstorm, and a fall date could feel like summer—or winter.  Always have a weather contingency plan. If you're planning an outdoor ceremony, ensure the venue you choose has a secure covered space, and that you’ve given thought to any needed changes you may need to make and what that will entail; i.e., umbrellas for guests, a warm wrap for your bridesmaids, a change in photography locations, etc.

3. Don’t Skip Breakfast (or Water!)

It’s easy to get swept up in hair, makeup, and pre-ceremony logistics—but food and hydration are critical to ensuring you feel and look our best throughout the day and evening. Start the day with a light, protein-rich breakfast, and keep snacks and water bottles nearby for you and your wedding party. Dehydration and hunger can sneak up on you fast, especially if alcohol is in the mix.  Designate a family member or friend to remind you and/or force you to eat and hydrate if necessary.

 4. Stick to a Realistic Timeline (With Buffers)

Your wedding day timeline should include plenty of cushion for things to run late—because they usually do. Add buffer time between getting ready, travel, photos, and the ceremony. It's better to have a few relaxed minutes than to feel rushed all day.

Pro tip: Share the timeline with everyone—vendors, wedding party, and family—so everyone’s on the same page.

5. Get Ready Close to the Venue

Traffic isn’t usually terrible in Buffalo, but travel time can still stress you out—especially on a busy summer weekend or game day. Choose a hotel, Airbnb, or better yet, a venue with a bridal suite to simplify the morning.

6. Designate a Point Person

You don’t need to answer questions about table assignments, corsage pins, or cake delivery on your wedding day. Designate a trusted friend, family member, or the very best option, a wedding coordinator to handle logistics and last-minute problems so you can focus on enjoying your moment.

At Notting Hill Farm, your venue rental fee includes a full day-of coordinator who will act as your point person in the months leading up to the day, as well as the day of!

7. Wear (and Test) Comfortable Shoes

Whether you're wearing heels, flats, boots, or custom sneakers, break them in ahead of time. Pack backup shoes in case your feet need relief by the reception. Your comfort will impact how much fun you have—especially on the dance floor!

8. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Your flowers may arrive a shade off, or your DJ might play the wrong song—but guess what? You’ll still be married at the end of the day. Try to release the urge to control every detail, and focus on the bigger picture: celebrating your love with the people who matter most.

9. Take Time Together—Just You Two

This might be the most important tip of all. Weddings can feel like a whirlwind, and it’s easy to spend the whole day surrounded by everyone except your partner. Carve out a few private moments to connect— whether it’s sharing a drink in a quiet room or taking a walk, during golden hour photos, or a quick escape before the reception; it’ll ground you and give you a moment to soak it all in.

10. Be Fully Present

Try to take little mental snapshots of the day—the look in your partner’s eyes, the laughter during toasts, the energy on the dance floor. These are the moments that make up your wedding day, and they’ll stay with you long after the cake is gone.

11. Have Fun!

This is your day. Let go of pressure to please everyone or meet perfection. Dance, laugh, cry, and celebrate the beginning of your marriage. Nothing else matters more.
